this is basically what my boss's shop is. he's licensed, his brother does the carpentry under the same company. the license is the part that makes it work

Question

uncle wants me to wire his basement under a homeowner permit. is that allowed

my uncle in barnegat is finishing his basement and wants me to do the wiring on weekends. he says he can pull a homeowner permit and i'd just be helping him, and he'd pay me in pizza and gas money basically. i work for a remodel shop in manahawkin so i know how to do it, but i'm not licensed. is this actually allowed in nj or is the homeowner permit only if he does the work himself? would rather ask here than ask my boss. edit: he owns the house and lives there, if that matters

Question

the GC keeps borrowing me for drywall cleanup on our remodel jobs

helper at a small electrical shop, residential remodels around manahawkin and the island. on the last two jobs the gc has been grabbing me when my boss isn't there. "hey can you help carry this drywall out," "can you sweep the kitchen for the tile guy." i say yes because i don't want to be rude, and then i'm behind on my own stuff. is this normal? how do i say no to a gc without it getting back to my boss wrong edit: told my boss. he was not happy with the gc. pretty sure that's handled now.

Question

re-identifying the white wire on a switch loop, is tape enough

residential remodel in manahawkin. old part of the house has a ceiling light fed at the fixture, with a 2-wire cable down to the switch. my boss wraps black tape on the white at both ends and moves on. in school they mentioned something about needing a neutral at switches now. is the tape enough on an existing loop, and does the newer code mean we have to rewire it when we touch it?
