Bronx shop landed a Midtown high-rise. Driving in, or the 6 train with my tools?

Asked by groundrod_05 · Jul 31

My non-union shop in the Bronx got a three-month job on a high-rise in Midtown. First time I'll be working in Manhattan. Driving in means the congestion charge plus parking, and the foreman says garages near the job cost about as much as a car payment. Taking the subway means carrying my tools on the 6 at 5:30am. How do you guys do it? Does anyone's shop actually pay for parking in the city? Appreciate it. edit: shop says they'll cover parking for the lead only. subway it is.

Can't help on parking, it's been years. What I remember from the city jobs I did back in my union days: deliveries are scheduled, usually early, with a loading area and a time slot for the hoist. Miss your slot and you wait half a day. The city teaches you patience whether you want it or not.
